Safety Officer Requirements
1. Functions under the direct supervision of the Incident Commander.
2. Responsibility for safety on the training ground to include accident prevention.
3. Identifies and recommends correction of any safety and health hazard and acts on all safety related matters.
4. Collaborates with staff officers to eliminate unsafe practices and reduce existing hazards.
5. Identifies and halts all unsafe practices seen on the academy grounds.
6. Demonstrates sound ethical standards.
7. Desired qualifications include:
a. Certification as an Incident Safety Officer.
b. Three to five years of firefighter experience.
c. Minimum of one recruit academy as an assistant safety officer.
