Skills Weekend Instructor Requirements

 

To apply to assist with the upcoming Recruit Firefighter Training Academy as a Skills Weekend Instructor,  you must meet the requirements and responsibilities for this position as outlined below:

 

Requirements:

·         Be able to commit to all days of practical instruction (ie. Both days of a Skills Weekend) and all mandatory staff meetings as indicated on the calendar.

·         Sign Code of Conduct Agreement

·         Be a member in good standing with your sponsoring agency

·         Participate in the pre-Academy Instructor Workshop

·         Possess IFSAC Instructor I certification, OR have previous successful experience as Instructor with the TFRTC Academy

·         Have at least 5 years firefighter experience. 

·         Have previously demonstrated effective delivery of practical skills instruction to small groups

·         Have demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability for the subject matter you are going to teach

·         Be technically competent in Firefighter 1 skills

 

Responsibilities:

·         Provide practical skill training to recruits for the skill set assigned.

·         Objectively document performance that is below acceptable limits with notation on areas to improve

·         Complete all Academy documentation requirements

·         Wear appropriate PPE and model correct safety practices

·         Promptly report any injury or accident to Academy Coordinator and/or Safety Officer

·         Monitor condition of assigned members

·         Assure all activities are carried out in safe manner – immediately stop any activity that may endanger anyone.

·         Ensure company members arrive at their assigned areas at the designated time

        Serve in a secondary capacity as a Safety Officer at all times during training.
