These are the core values that bind Thurston Fire and Rescue Training Consortium members together and guide their conduct, performance, and decisions. These core values are deeply rooted in the heritage of their commitment to public service that has immortalized the fire service profession to the American people. TFRTC members embrace and live these values in their professional as well as their personal lives every day of the year. Consequently, they are instilled in firefighter recruits throughout their training experience.
Service
We are full-time and volunteer professionals who are held accountable for our actions because we are given authority commensurate to the responsibility and public trust vested in us by the communities that we serve. We are committed to serving the needs of our communities and the successful achievement of our organizational goals and objectives. Patient care is our first priority. Life takes precedence over property, we err on the side of caution, and safety is practiced at all times. The fire service exists to serve and we serve with pride.
Stewardship
We are entrusted by our constituents to execute the duties and responsibilities of our respective positions with complete honesty, integrity, and good judgment. We are tasked with judiciously using/expending taxpayers’ resources consistent with accepted business practices and maximizing the return on investment at all times and under all circumstances.
Integrity
Integrity is the standard by which our character, ethical conduct, morality, and behavior in our personal, professional, and organizational lives are measured; the purity of which serves as the synergy about which all other core values revolve and perpetuates the ideals of the fire service.
Respect
We value the diversity that exists within our workforce and our communities and treat each other and those we serve with fairness, dignity, respect, and compassion. We encourage individual opportunity and growth and we encourage creativity through empowerment. Additionally, we work as a team through collaborative decision-making.
